Not happening

Friday, May 20th, 2005

Gaaah, not only aren’t my glasses ready, but my net connection dropped last night, so all my nice downloads aren’t finished. Not sure if it’s Eclipse or my router (Netgear DG814), so I’ve flashed the BIOS in it again. God knows if it’s a problem my end or not, but we’ll see what happens.

God damn routers!

I bloody hate computers. They never bloody work! After networking and connection speeds dropping and odd network traffic I thought it was about time to flash the router and update the firmware. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

All was going well until the damn thing wouldn’t reset. Gawd knows what traffic was going through it, but it’s not been happy for weeks. Anyway, I attempt a manual reset and the blasted thing hasn’t worked quite right since.

I seem to remember something similar a year or two ago, when it would only allow LAN traffic or it would dial up, but no DHCP service. A manual IP did something, but it’s all gone to pot again now. So much for newer drivers. As for the new UPnP stuff, it seemed to royaly shaft the whole thing, and now I find myself with no computers that will talk to each other, or Internet access. Bastard things. I’ve just switched the lot off so they can think about what they’ve done and I’ll sort them out tomorrow.

I really do hate computers at the moment (and yes I know I’ve just used one to post this).

Again?

And now the Eclipse FTP servers have gone down. Oh well. I guess it’s just my amazingly good timing. Makes a change after the whole net going down yesterday.

That reminds me, I must do the windows updates on the machines at home. It’s lovely having a firewall built in to a router. Viruses? What viruses?

It’s alive!!!

Who’da thunk it? We have actually gotten a third comic out this week, and, get this, they were out 3 days in a row. This has to be some kind of a record for us. The next one should be out next Monday, but don’t quote me on that. hehehe ;o)

Not only that, but my router is back up and running. After leaving it off for about a week or two I turned it back on, reset it and it’s come up roses. Bloody thing. Can give John back his router now.

And as for John, I’ve just bought his old computer from him. Shall be swapping a few bits and peices round in the next week or so and rebuilding both my machines. One for a server (files, music and stuff) and the other a dedicated games machine. I can’t wait. Am only going up to the 2GHz mark, but it’s still a step up from 1.6. As for how it will all run when I’ve put it together, God only knows. If it’s anything like my usual builds, they won’t!

Looking in the wrong place

My whole hearted apologies to those fine, fine folks at Eclipse. After their strongly worded letter I assumed they’d cut me off, but thanks to Johnny Mac for lending me a new hub and getting us back online. Should be able to get the comics out again now, probably.

That still leaves the question of what the fuck is wrong with my router. NetGear are under the spotlight now, we shall see what happens.
