Gates of hell

Having just read The Daily Princetonian – A conversation with Bill Gates having followed the link on Steve’s last comment I read with interest the last couple of para’s:

It’s not the physical format that we have the issue with, it’s that the protection scheme on Blu is very anti-consumer. If [the Blu-ray group] would fix that one thing, you know, that’d be fine.

For us it’s not the physical format. Understand that this is the last physical format there will ever be. Everything’s going to be streamed directly or on a hard disk. So, in this way, it’s even unclear how much this one counts.

Seems like Mr Gates is actually interested in consumer rights and the rights to use the content you bought as you see fit. Shame once it’s all streamed and filled with his own brand of DRM that it’ll be back in the same place all over again.

They’ve already launched Windows Live which I can only guess is eventually to become the terminal computing behemoth that MS has wanted since the old days, no more piracy, because people will have to run the code direct from the server, no more CD’s and DVD’s to get copied.

Fair enough, I just know it’s going to make installing Mozilla a pain in the ass.
